A recent SCNetwork panel discussion identified key areas where social media can have a big impact on HR.
- Mentoring. The available mentor pool becomes much larger and people can reach out more easily to potential mentors when these relationships can operate virtually.
Social media can aid in choosing the right mentor as it is more obvious who the experts are in a particular area from their comments on blogs, Twitter, and other social media platforms.
- Performance Management. 360-degree systems become possible with online forms and performance data capture in real time. Analytics become easier as well.
- Leadership. Virtual availability fosters transparency that can help one develop an approachable leadership style. It is easier to engage employees when they feel like they know their leaders.
- E-recruiting. Companies can attract and engage talent for free, or at a low cost, using multiple social media channels.
- Communications. Effective and timely communications can be sent to stakeholders and customers.
